LEARN. Educate. Empower. Heal.
The Friends of Barnabas Foundation is a non-profit organization that empowers families in Honduras through healthcare and education. Our story began in 2000, under the direction of our founder, Reverend Linwood Cook, who saw a need for enabling volunteers in mission and was compelled to help the poor of the world. What started as simple mission trips to dispense Vitamin A and anti-parasite medications to children has since grown into a multifaceted organization that addresses each component of the Honduran healthcare system, from community-based programs to system-wide endeavors.
Our Mission, Vision, and Commitment
Our mission is to empower families in Honduras through healthcare and education. We envision a strengthened Honduran healthcare system where all have access to quality care. To achieve this, we are committed to deepening our programming so that families can manage their child's long-term healthcare issues with a sense of empowerment, confidence, and hope. We also seek to research key health issues and respond appropriately, as well as provide training within the Honduran healthcare system to improve patient outcomes.
Who was Saint Barnabas?
Our organization is named after Saint Barnabas, also known as the Son of Encouragement. Barnabas was an early missionary and supporter of those who suffered challenges and faced daily struggles. He had a kind and generous spirit, was a thoughtful teacher, and offered encouragement to those in need. These qualities are fundamental to the work of Friends of Barnabas.
