Caring. beyond the moment.
St. Joseph's Health Centre of Sudbury stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Sault Ste. Marie, dedicated to providing compassionate care to the community. Rooted in Catholic values of dignity, excellence, service, and integrity, our organization blossomed from the closure of the acute care site at St. Joseph's Health Centre (formerly Sudbury General Hospital). Recognizing a critical need for post-acute care, we seamlessly transitioned to fulfill our mission of serving the health needs of the Greater Sudbury region. Our unwavering commitment to a culture of caring permeates every aspect of our operations.
Our Services
St. Joseph's Health Centre oversees and manages four distinct yet interconnected facilities: St. Joseph's Villa, Villa St. Gabriel, and two sites of St. Joseph's Continuing Care Centre. Each site offers a unique range of services tailored to meet the diverse needs of our residents and patients.
St. Joseph's Villa, located in the south end of Sudbury, offers 128 beds of long-term care. This vibrant community, situated across from Laurentian University, provides a comfortable and personalized environment for seniors requiring extended support. Villa St. Gabriel, nestled in the close-knit community of Chelmsford, similarly offers 128 beds of long-term care. This serene setting, 18 kilometers from downtown Sudbury, fosters a sense of peace and belonging for its residents. Both St. Joseph's Villa and Villa St. Gabriel prioritize residents' physical, emotional, and social well-being through individualized care plans, engaging activities, and a compassionate team.
St. Joseph's Continuing Care Centre plays a vital role in post-acute rehabilitation, helping individuals regain their strength and independence. With its main site physically connected to St. Joseph's Villa and boasting 64 rehab beds, the centre offers a comprehensive range of therapies and supports. During the COVID-19 pandemic, an additional 60 beds were established at the Clarion Hotel to address the surge in need for transitional and rehabilitation services. These beds are expected to relocate to a permanent location on Lasalle Boulevard in early 2024, further solidifying our commitment to providing robust post-acute care within the community.
Culturally Relevant Care
As a Catholic organization, St. Joseph's Health Centre is deeply committed to serving the whole person-body, mind, and spirit. We strive to provide culturally relevant care that respects the dignity and individual beliefs of every person entrusted to our care. This principle guides our interactions with residents, patients, and their families, ensuring that everyone feels supported, valued, and heard.
