Our History

DeWitt Products is a family-owned business with a legacy spanning nearly nine decades. It all began in 1931 when Alfred D. McClellan, known affectionately as "Mac, " founded the company after losing his cedar shingle roofing business to fire. Facing financial hardship during the Great Depression, Mac made the difficult decision to sell his family home to pay his creditors and start over. Armed with nothing but a cement mixer and a couple of asphalt coating formulas, he mixed products in the morning, sold them in the afternoon, and bought groceries on his way home. His dedication and resilience fueled his entrepreneurial spirit. By 1938, Mac was able to purchase a building in Southwest Detroit, where DeWitt Products continues to operate today, a testament to his unwavering commitment and the product's exceptional quality.
