Our Story
At Daunt's Albatross Motel, our story is one of love, hospitality, and a deep connection to the beautiful town of Montauk. It all began in the early 1970s when our grandparents, Frances and Rich Daunt, fell in love with this charming beach town. They purchased a small bungalow and soon found themselves hosting family and friends, realizing that their home couldn't accommodate the growing number of guests. In 1977, they acquired The Albatross Motel, marking the beginning of our family's hospitality journey.
A Legacy of Love and Hospitality
Over the years, our family has continued to welcome guests from all over the world. Our grandfather, Rich, affectionately known as Poppy, was a veteran of the NY Police Force. After retiring from the Nassau Co Bomb Squad, he took up residence at the Albatross, becoming the ultimate concierge and consummate entertainer. Our grandmother, Fran, lovingly referred to as Meme, ran the show alongside Poppy, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that has been preserved to this day.
Our Hotel Rooms
At Daunt's Albatross Motel, our hotel rooms are designed with comfort, simplicity, and warmth in mind. Carefully curated antiques and vintage textiles complement custom-made knotty alder beds and organically shaped stone floors. Our rooms are designed to leave room for your mind and body to wander and explore the surrounding nature.
Koda Suite
The Koda Suite is our largest accommodation, named after our beloved family dog, Koda. This spacious suite features a living room with a fireplace and a dining area with a full kitchen. Enjoy a separate king bedroom and ensuite bathroom with a soaking tub and shower, plus a convertible full-size daybed and second bathroom with shower. Book the Koda Suite for an unforgettable stay.
Two Room Suite
Perfect for traveling with friends or family, our Two Room Suite features two separate bedrooms, each with a full XL bed. One bedroom has an ensuite bathroom with a shower. Enjoy custom amenities such as a mini fridge and single vanity bathroom with shower.
