The Hartnett Law Firm is a family-owned, boutique law firm that has been providing high-quality service to the community for over thirty years. Our primary focus is on complex probate litigation issues, and we are proud to have three generations of lawyers working together to provide exceptional service to our clients.

Our practice areas include will contests, trust disputes, and guardianships. We are based in Dallas, Texas, but our lawyers serve clients all across the State of Texas.

Founding of the Firm

Our firm was founded in 1985 by Jim Hartnett Sr., Jim Hartnett Jr., Will Hartnett, and Donna Spencer. Since that time, six other family members have joined the firm, all practicing exclusively in the area of probate litigation. Services Offered

We offer a wide range of services to help our clients navigate complex legal issues. Our primary practice areas include:

• Estate Litigation: This area includes probate matters such as will contests, will construction, and removal of an administrator.
• Trust Litigation: Matters including trust contests, trust terminations, breaches of fiduciary duty, and removals of trustees.
• Heirship: A branch of estate litigation, this area focuses on inheritances when no will is found and includes common-law spouse determinations.
• Guardianship: Occurs when a minor or adult is incapacitated and needs the probate court to appoint someone to assist in handling their affairs.

Honors and Achievements

Our firm ranks among the top tier in Texas, receiving an "AV" rating in the Martindale-Hubble Law Directory, the highest given by the organization. The Firm is also listed under its Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers. Individually, some lawyers in our firm have been recognized among the state's best attorneys. For example, Jim Jr., and Will have both been recognized by Thomson Reuters as Super Lawyers from 2003-2017, Jim Jr., was also recognized by Texas Lawyer as 2013's Go-To Lawyer in Trust and Estate Law, and Tanner Hartnett & Jay Hartnett was named as Rising Stars by Thomson Reuters in 2019 & 2004 respectively.
