Shaping healthcare's future by working together today.
At The Healthcare Council, we believe that the key to shaping the future of healthcare lies in the power of regional cooperation. For over 75 years, our organization has been dedicated to providing strategic and business advantages to our members, comprising of hospitals, systems, allied healthcare providers, and health-related institutions in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Our History
Founded in 1946 by the Presidents of the Boards of Directors and Administrators of hospitals in the District of Columbia, Arlington County, Alexandria County, Montgomery County, and Prince George's County in Maryland, The Healthcare Council was established to promote intelligent planning, facilitate discussion of common problems, and act as a clearinghouse for the exchange of information. Today, we continue to play a vital role in the Mid-Atlantic healthcare landscape, utilizing a variety of tools to accomplish our mission.
Education and Professional Development
Education is at the forefront of our existence. We offer a range of educational activities, including CEO Luncheons, 15 professional divisional groups with quarterly meetings, events, seminars, and conferences. These activities provide a platform for CEOs, Board Chairs, and other Executives to engage in strategic discussions and share expertise with peers. Our divisional groups are composed of department heads and specialists, addressing managerial trends and concerns, and often featuring presentations from experts in the field.
Group Purchasing and Savings
Our wholly owned subsidiary corporation, ShareSource, is dedicated to saving participants millions of dollars every year through group purchasing and contract negotiation. This collective strength allows us to secure better deals for our members, enabling them to redirect resources toward patient care and services.
Wage and Salary Surveys
As part of our commitment to supporting our members, we provide annual wage and salary surveys covering over 150 positions by title and description. With over 60 positions in the Executive/Department Head Salary Survey, we help our members stay informed about regional pay scales and remain competitive in the job market.
Council Board of Directors
The Healthcare Council is governed by a 22-member Board of Trustees comprising both healthcare providers and payer leaders. Our Board meets four times a year to review the strategic direction of the organization and ensure that our mission is fulfilled.
Our Values
At The Healthcare Council, we value the power of collaboration, the importance of education, and the benefits of collective strength. We believe that together, we can achieve more than we could alone, and that by working together, we can improve the healthcare landscape in our region.
