Binkley Preschool

Binkley Preschool is a half-day preschool located in the heart of Chapel Hill, serving children ages 2, 3, 4, and 5. Since its founding in 1965, the school has been built on the belief that all children in the community should benefit from a high-quality preschool experience. Our mission and philosophy remain unchanged to this day, focusing on providing a loving, nurturing environment that is challenging, stimulating, and age-appropriate for our students.

Our program is designed to foster a sense of independence and a positive self-image in each child. We believe that children learn best through play and strive to create an environment that is both fun and educational. Our experienced teaching staff, with an average tenure of 9+ years, offer a wealth of experience and knowledge to our students. All teachers are certified in First Aid and CPR, and lead teachers have a degree in education. We also offer music, physical education, and drama classes, as well as dedicated blocks of unstructured outdoor play on our beautiful, large, wooded playground.

Our curriculum emphasizes challenging children intellectually, physically, socially, and emotionally. Teachers set the stage for hands-on learning in a stimulating manner that instills excitement, curiosity, problem-solving, sharing, and freedom of expression. We believe in fostering a sense of curiosity and a love of learning in our students, allowing them to develop at their own pace.

Our History

In the fall of 1965, Binkley Kindergarten was established as an outreach ministry of Olin T. Binkley Baptist Church. The school was conceived as a mission to the community with the goal of providing a quality preschool opportunity for children of all backgrounds within the community. We are proud to have upheld the goals of our founders since our inception.

Our Curriculum

Our curriculum is designed to be challenging yet nurturing, focusing on intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development. We believe in the importance of hands-on learning and encouraging independence and self-image in our students. Our teachers act as facilitators, guiding children through their learning journey and providing support and encouragement along the way.

Our Classes

We offer 2-day, 3-day, and 5-day options for students ages 2 through 5. Our classes are designed to cater to the needs of children at different ages and stages of development, ensuring that each child has the opportunity to grow and learn in a supportive and stimulating environment.

Our Play Spaces

Our classrooms boast floor-to-ceiling windows that create bright and inviting spaces for students to play and explore. Our large, natural playground offers many climbing structures, slides, and swings, providing ample space for children to run, jump, play games, and imagine. We believe that outdoor play is essential for children's development and provide dedicated blocks of unstructured outdoor play each day.
