Our History

Vanderloo and White Animal Hospital was opened in the 1920s by Dr. Vivian Vanderloo of Coon Rapids, Iowa. Originally located further east on Asbury Road, the clinic was moved to its current location at 3350 Asbury Road in 1954 to better serve its rural farm clients. Dr. Merrill Vanderloo joined his father in practice around this time and continued mainly farm animal veterinary medicine. As Dubuque grew, the clinic adapted to serve the expanding small animal needs of the community. Today, Vanderloo and White Animal Hospital continues to serve both small and large animal clients.

In 1978, Dr. Michael White joined the practice, followed by Dr. Phil Olson in 1985 and Dr. Adam White in 2012. To accommodate the areas expanding companion animal needs, Vanderloo and White Animal Hospital acquired a second location at 1865 Central Avenue in 2017. This location, previously known as Central Animal Hospital, was founded by Dr. Leonard Kutsch in 1981. Vanderloo and White look forward to continuing the same level of animal care provided by Dr. Kutsch.

• Pet Supplies: We carry a range of pet supplies, including collars, leashes, toys, and grooming supplies.
• Home Laser Therapy: We are excited to offer Companion Laser Therapy, a non-invasive, pain-free, surgery-free, drug-free treatment that is used to treat a variety of conditions and can be performed in conjunction with existing treatment protocols.
• Online Pharmacy: Our online pharmacy allows you to order your pet's medications and have them delivered directly to your door.

Our Staff

Our team of veterinarians and support staff are dedicated to providing the highest quality care for your pet.

• Dr. Michael White: Dr. White is a graduate of the Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine and has been a partner at Vanderloo and White since 1982. He enjoys working with a variety of animals and has a special interest in small animal medicine and surgery.
• Dr. Phil Olson: Dr. Olson is a graduate of the Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine and has been a partner at Vanderloo and White since 1993. He has a special interest in large animal medicine and surgery.
• Dr. Adam White: Dr. White grew up in the Dubuque area and joined Vanderloo and White in 2012. He has a special interest in small animal medicine and surgery, as well as exotic pet care.
