Village Green Pre-School

Village Green Preschool, nestled in the heart of beautiful downtown Sterling, Massachusetts, has been enriching young minds since its founding in 1980. Born as a non-profit outreach program of the First Church in Sterling Center, Village Green Preschool has blossomed into a beloved independent, nonsectarian preschool option for families throughout Sterling and surrounding areas. For over forty years, Village Green has provided a nurturing and stimulating environment where children can explore, learn, and grow.

Under the initial leadership of Linda Greene, who dedicated four decades to the school, Village Green has benefited from the continued guidance of Karen Ormsbee since 2020. During this time, the preschool has remained steadfast in its commitment to offering a developmentally based early childhood program for children ages three, four, and five. This dedication to quality early education is further solidified by Village Green's licensing by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care and accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

Our Philosophy

At Village Green, we believe that every child is unique and deserves a learning experience that celebrates their individuality. Our curriculum is designed to foster each child's emotional, social, physical, and cognitive development through engaging and play-based activities. We strive to create a warm and welcoming community where children feel safe, respected, and encouraged to learn and explore at their own pace.

Our Programs

Village Green offers a comprehensive range of programs to meet the diverse needs of our families. We provide both half-day and full-day options, available for two, three, or five days a week. This flexibility allows families to choose the program that best suits their schedules and their child's needs. Our school year runs from September to May, with enrollment for the fall opening in January following our annual Open House.

Parental Involvement

We believe that strong partnerships between families and teachers are essential to a child's success. Our Parent Advisory Board plays a vital role in shaping the school's direction and ensuring that it meets the needs of our families. Active parents are welcome to participate in various school activities, volunteer opportunities, and committee work.

The Village Green Experience

A typical day at Village Green Preschool is filled with discovery, creativity, and fun. Children participate in a variety of activities, including arts and crafts, music and movement, storytelling, dramatic play, science exploration, and outdoor play. Our classrooms are thoughtfully designed to create a stimulating and inviting learning environment. They are equipped with age-appropriate toys, materials, and resources that encourage exploration and learning through play.
