Founded in 1991 by Nathan Reyes, the company was named after his son, Matt, reflecting a commitment to family and quality.

From its humble beginnings, Matt's has blossomed into a team of ten dedicated professionals, led by Nathan Reyes. The company's incorporation in August 1992 marked a significant milestone, solidifying its position in the market. Growth during the 90's was remarkable, considering the economic climate of the time. This success can be attributed in part to our distinction as one of only two Authorized Allison Dealers in Hawai'i and the sole direct dealer in the nation. As the largest manufacturer of heavy/medium transmissions, Allison, a General Motors company, places immense trust in our expertise. This unique partnership, coupled with an unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction, has positioned Matt's as the preferred choice for some of Hawai'i's largest heavy vehicle fleet owners.

Overcoming Challenges

By 2001, Matt's outgrew its initial facility and seized an opportune moment to acquire its current location on Sand Island. This spacious 7,500 square foot property offered a two-story office/residence building and an enclosed metal structure housing equipment, inventory, and three work bays. However, the tragic events of September 11th, 2001, significantly impacted the commercial vehicle maintenance market.

Tour bus clients, in particular, experienced a downturn resulting in reduced maintenance. Matt's, with unwavering resilience, adapted to this challenging environment. By streamlining operations and reducing staff, we successfully navigated the economic downturn.
