At Sugar Grove Studio, we are dedicated to creating unique, high-quality pieces of jewelry and pottery that reflect our deep love for nature and respect for the environment. Our founder, Nell J. Fredericksen, is a biologist/zoologist turned professional artist, who has spent years in Bolivia, where she was influenced by the vibrant colors, diverse wildlife, and rich culture of the country.

Nell has now settled down in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, where she continues to work as a professional artist, inspired by the tranquil beauty of her surroundings. She is an artist of real integrity, whose work is an expression of her deep love for nature and profound respect for its claims. Her work showcases her imaginative and meticulous craftsmanship, and she handles color, line, and shape with a poet's sensitivity and a scientist's discipline.

Jewelry Commissions

Our jewelry commissions are unique, individual pieces that reflect the beauty of nature. Nell works mainly in gold, but also incorporates platinum and silver to enhance the beauty of high-quality gemstones, diamonds, and her elegant designs. She believes in creating pieces that are not only beautiful but also wearable, ensuring that each piece becomes a cherished heirloom.

Pottery

Our pottery is both artistic and functional. Nell uses mid-range stoneware, formed on the potter's wheel, to produce classic pottery forms characterized by clean lines and rich natural glaze colors. Many pieces have natural leaf and turtle or dragonfly accents. The goal with all these pieces is to bring the beauty of handmade pottery into everyday use. All of these pieces are food, oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe.

Redesigns & Restorations

At Sugar Grove Studio, we understand the value of heirloom pieces. If you have a cherished item that isn't getting worn because it is dated, broken, or doesn't suit your style, we can breathe fresh life into it. Nell can redesign or create an entirely new piece from your existing stones, scrap gold, or antique jewelry, returning them to the cherished status they deserve.

Custom Commissions

One of the things we truly love is working with clients to design a one-of-a-kind piece that is unique and theirs alone. From engagement rings, wedding bands, or right-hand rings, to one-of-a-kind pendants, earrings, or bracelets, you can join us on a journey of design and creation that results in a piece to be treasured. Whether using brand-new materials or re-purposing your older jewelry, gemstones, and/or scrap gold, we work in tandem with you to design a piece that reflects both our aesthetic and your vision.
