Smee + Busby Architects

Smee + Busby Architects is a Knoxville-based architectural firm with a rich history and a dedicated team of professionals. Established in 2005, the firm has grown to include a diverse staff of talented individuals who bring a wide range of design and technical skills to the table. Our two principals, Gregor R. Smee, AIA, and J. Scott Busby, AIA, lead the firm with a combined experience of over 70 years in the industry.

Our firm has had the privilege of working on a variety of project types over the years. From commercial and educational buildings to religious and housing projects, we have the capabilities to handle every aspect of design, from conceptual development to construction. We believe that each project deserves a unique approach, thoughtfully customized to the needs of the people we serve.

Our Team

Gregor Smee, AIA, LEED AP (Principal)

With over 35 years of professional experience in architecture, Gregor Smee has a wealth of knowledge and expertise. He has held licenses in 40 states across the United States and has lived in East Tennessee since 1993. Gregor's areas of expertise include commercial, educational, religious, and housing projects. He established Smee Architecture Inc. in 2004, and the following year, Scott Busby joined as a partner, and the firm was renamed Smee+Busby Architects, P.C. In 2018, Gregor and Scott bought and renovated a 100-year-old church on Sutherland Avenue, which is now the home of their offices. In his spare time, Gregor enjoys building tree houses, chicken coops, storage sheds, and outdoor bars.

J. Scott Busby, AIA (Principal)

Scott Busby has over 35 years of experience in a variety of project types, including collegiate, health care, religious, educational, and commercial buildings. He is the recipient of numerous local and state awards and received the 2000 American Institute of Architects (AIA) Young Architects Award, given to only five recipients nationwide. Scott received his Bachelors of Architecture with Honors from the University of Tennessee in 1987 and has served in various leadership roles in the architectural community. He enjoys volleyball, snow skiing, and keeping his puns intentional.

Greg Armour, AIA, LEED AP (Senior Architect)

Greg Armour joined Smee + Busby Architects in 2022, bringing over 25 years of architectural experience to the team. He received his Bachelor of Photo Journalism from Columbia College Chicago and his Master of Architecture from the University of Tennessee. Greg has lived in Knoxville for most of his career and has worked on a variety of project types.
