Learn, Grow, and Thrive with Us!

Community Nursery School has been a staple in the Metuchen, NJ community since 1949. Our preschool program is designed to provide a nurturing and supportive environment for children aged two and a half to five years old. We believe that children learn best through exploration and interaction with others, and our curriculum is based on this child-centered constructivist approach.

As a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and Community Child Care Solutions (CCCS), we are committed to providing high-quality early childhood education. Our program includes opportunities for social development, music integration, hand-eye coordination, language skills, academic readiness, and social emotional learning. We offer a variety of traditional activities such as art, storytelling, dramatic play, and science, as well as daily gross motor activities both indoors and outdoors.

Pre-K Classes

Our Pre-K classes foster creativity, sharing, understanding, and respecting others while focusing on each child's social, emotional, cognitive, language, and physical development. We offer various schedule options to accommodate the needs of our families. Our Pre-K classes provide a traditional preschool setting, not a daycare setting.

K-Wrap Program

For half-day Kindergarten students attending Moss Elementary School, we offer our academic K-Wrap program. This program complements and extends the Moss Elementary School Kindergarten program and runs from 9:00-12:15 in the morning and 11:45 to 3:00 in the afternoon. The K-Wrap program explores various units of study beyond the NJSLS for Kindergarten and includes a Walking Bus to and from Moss Elementary School (no busing fees!).

Grow with Me Classes

Our Grow with Me classes are designed for walkers up to 30 months of age and their caregivers. These classes provide a fun and engaging learning environment for children to learn early preschool skills and ease the transition to independent preschool or daycare. Led by Kat Davis, the classes include themed songs, activities, and a craft.

Additional Program Features

In addition to our regular program offerings, we provide the following:

  • A nutritious snack per day, with training in healthy eating habits and personal hygiene.
  • Speech and vision screenings.
  • Parent involvement through our Advisory Board and Parent Association.
  • Special extracurricular activities during the year such as Firetruck and EMS visits, Seeing Eye Dog program, Magic Show, Lizard Guys, and more.

At Community Nursery School, we are committed to providing a high-quality early childhood education program that meets the needs of each child. We strive to provide a nurturing and supportive environment that promotes social-emotional, cognitive, language, and physical development.
