ChildCare Vietnam is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of disabled and abandoned children in Vietnam. Our mission is to provide a chance at a better life for these vulnerable children and to help them reach their full potential.
Our Program
Our program focuses on providing special education, treatment, and activities to maximize the development and independence of children with special needs. We have a team of professional staff who work with special-needs children, many of whom would otherwise receive no schooling or rehabilitative care. Our staff-to-child ratio is approximately 1:3, ensuring that each child receives individualized attention and support.
Our Sites
One of our main sites is the Peace Village in Quang Nam province, which has over 100 residents, including over 20 special-needs children and nearly 50 other abandoned babies and children. Before we began our program, only one part-time physical therapist was available, and no education was provided for the special-needs children. Now, two additional physical therapists are on board full-time, and our professional teaching staff provides a full-day of schooling in four subject areas: Literacy, Numeracy, Communication, and Life Skills. Each child with disabilities has an Individual Education Plan, and progress is assessed annually.
We also operate the Phu Ninh Early Intervention Program in the southern region of Quang Nam province, which provides a day program for children with Down Syndrome, autism, or other disabilities who live with their families. Since 2020, we have been operating this program and have seen significant improvements in the lives of the children we serve.
Our People
Our team of dedicated professionals is led by Program Director Laurence Borten, who has extensive experience in special education and child development. Our staff includes special education teachers, therapists, and assistants, as well as program administrators and support staff. We also have a Board of Directors, including William Kapell, Vice President, and Suzanne K. Williams, Secretary.
Our Focus
Our focus is on providing a support system for children with special needs, including those with physical, intellectual, or developmental disabilities. We believe that every child deserves access to quality education, healthcare, and social services, regardless of their abilities.
