Celebrating Lives with Compassion and Care
Our Story
Pope Funeral Home has been serving the Midlands of South Carolina for over 65 years, providing individualized care and personal attention to families in their time of need. Our commitment to excellence and dedication to our community has made us a trusted and respected provider of funeral services.
Our History
The story of Pope Funeral Home begins with John Lawrence Pope, a talented embalmer who returned to Fairfield County to work for Harden Funeral Home in 1956. After Mr. Harden's retirement, John and his family bought the business in 1957 and relocated to a historic home on South Congress Street. With his reputation for honesty, integrity, and compassion, John Pope's name became synonymous with dignity and professional service. Sadly, John passed away in 1976, but his wife, Bette, continued to run the business until her passing in 2016. Today, John Robert Wood, the grandson of John and Bette Pope, carries on the family legacy, ensuring that the same tradition of excellence and respect for others continues.
