Our History

Springston Real Estate proudly holds the distinction of being the oldest real estate company in West Virginia. Our journey began in the late 1940s when A.L. "Skipper" Springston established his own real estate firm, aptly named Springston Real Estate. Skipper's visionary leadership paved the way for a legacy built on integrity, dedication to client service, and a deep understanding of the local real estate market.

In the late 1950s, Skipper made a pivotal move, relocating his real estate office into a house he purchased at the corner of Walnut Avenue and 3rd Street in Fairmont. This marked the beginning of the Springston name becoming synonymous with real estate expertise in the community. During this period, Skipper's son, Ben, joined the family business, starting his real estate career alongside his father.

Bill Yoho joined the Springston team as an agent in 1980, a time when Ben was already an associate broker, expertly managing the company's operations. Skipper, recognizing their individual talents and contributions, retired in February 1986. This marked a significant transition, with Ben, Bill, and another dedicated agent, Terry Brake, becoming equal one-third owners of Springston & Company, Inc. Ben assumed the role of "broker of the record, " while both Bill and Terry were also appointed associate brokers, solidifying their commitment to upholding the high standards set by Skipper.

The company continued to evolve over the years, with Bill and Terry co-owning Springston Real Estate in 2010. In 2016, Kara Thomas and Shannon Onderko joined the team as agents, bringing fresh perspectives and unwavering dedication. Their exceptional work quickly led to them becoming co-owners along with Bill and Terry in 2018. In 2021, Kara and Shannon assumed sole ownership of Springston Real Estate, carrying forward the mantle of leadership with the same commitment to excellence that has defined the company's history.
