Where artistic vision meets cutting-edge technology
Digital ImageWorks is a fine art and large format digital printmaking business situated in the heart of Waterville, Maine. Our primary objective is to generate the highest quality prints available for artists, photographers, and businesses. To achieve this goal, we focus on two crucial elements: the technology used for image capture and printing, and the expertise and capabilities of the individuals operating that equipment.
At Digital ImageWorks, we utilize Epson Giclee printers in conjunction with archival quality inks and media to produce our prints. We capture all original artwork using a state-of-the-art 45.7 megapixel Nikon D850 camera. Our company is owned and managed by Erik Thomas, who boasts 15 years of experience in photography, graphics, and digital printmaking. We firmly believe that the people operating the equipment play a significant role in determining the quality of a print. At DIW, we consistently strive to exceed our customers' expectations with our commitment to providing exceptional service and unmatched print quality.
Our Commitment to Customer Satisfaction
At Digital ImageWorks, we recognize the importance of open communication and customer feedback in enhancing our business and products. We make every effort to understand our customers' goals and budget constraints to help determine the optimal quantity, size, and media for their artwork. Throughout the printmaking process, we work closely with our customers to ensure that the final product accurately reflects their vision.
The Giclee Printmaking Process
Giclee (zhee-CLAY) printing is a specialized technique for producing high-resolution, high-fidelity reproductions of artwork. Giclees are created using digital scans of existing artwork, as well as digital art that does not have an original physical counterpart. They can be printed on a variety of media, including canvas, watercolor paper, and transparent acetates.
Giclees offer numerous advantages over traditional lithography methods. They are produced directly from digital files, eliminating the need for negatives and printing plates, allowing for greater detail retention. Color reproduction is also remarkably better in Giclees, with a more comprehensive range of hues and shades that can last longer than lithography. In addition, Giclees exhibit virtually continuous tone, rather than the tiny dots employed in lithography, resulting in a more subtle and nuanced appearance.
Affordability and Flexibility
Despite the personal attention and advanced technology utilized in Giclee printmaking at Digital ImageWorks, our services remain competitively priced. Set-up costs are kept reasonable, and the ability to produce prints on demand in small quantities provides customers with the flexibility to reorder whenever needed.
