Our History

Our story began in the early 1930s when Oliver D. Washington, Sr.'s dream of becoming a funeral director took shape. Growing up in rural Caroline County, Oliver was inspired by his uncle's role in caring for the deceased and bereaved families in their community. This sparked an interest in him to pursue a career in funeral service. After completing his education and serving in the U.S. Army, Oliver began his journey as a licensed funeral director and embalmer. He worked in several funeral homes in the area before establishing Washington Funeral Home, Inc. in 1960.
