Founded in 1972 by Richard Marlenee, the company has grown from humble beginnings into a leading construction force in northeastern Montana, known for its expertise across a wide range of residential and commercial projects. Through Richard and his son Gregg's combined experience, Marlenee Construction has become synonymous with quality construction, meticulous attention to detail, and a dedication to exceeding customer expectations.

Richard's passion for construction ignited during his youth on his family farm in northeastern Montana. Witnessing the tangible artistry of building a home alongside his cousin solidified his career path. Pursuing formal training at North Dakota State School of Science, Richard honed his skills in architecture and estimating, graduating with an Associate Degree in 1973. While still mastering his craft, he founded Marlenee Construction, embarking on a journey that would lead him from residential homes to ambitious commercial projects.

Richard's experience didn't stop at residential construction. He sought out new challenges, joining a prominent commercial contractor in Montana where he gained invaluable expertise in the intricacies of large-scale projects. Schools, churches, coal mine buildings, and refinery buildings came to life under his watchful eye, expanding his understanding of the commercial construction realm.

The allure of entrepreneurship took hold again as Richard founded a utility company in Arizona, immersing himself in the world of public projects such as traffic signal construction, freeway signage, street lighting, and power substations. His entrepreneurial spirit fueled his expansion, bringing the company to Billings, Montana, where he could reconnect with his roots and valued family time.

Keen to return to his passion for construction, Richard established his primary focus back on residential and commercial building in Scobey, Montana. Marlenee Construction's portfolio flourished, encompassing a diverse range of projects, from irrigation dams and state bridge projects to large commercial buildings, storage facilities, custom homes, remodels, and school renovations.

In 2006, Richard's son, Gregg, joined forces with him, ushering in a new chapter for Marlenee Construction. Gregg, who grew up alongside the family business, had a unique perspective on construction. His small-town upbringing in northeastern Montana instilled in him a deep understanding of the trade's intricacies. He began his journey working alongside his father, absorbing knowledge across all facets of construction, from concrete work to trim-out.

Driven by a thirst for knowledge, Gregg pursued formal education at Helena College of Technology, earning a degree in Construction Technology. Furthering his expertise, he attended North Dakota State College of Science, where he graduated with a degree in Architectural Drafting and Estimating. Combining his education with the invaluable hands-on experience gained from his father, Gregg became a cornerstone of Marlenee Construction.
