Enabling self-sufficiency through accessible healthcare
Shelter Health Services stands as a beacon of hope for the most vulnerable in our community - homeless women and children. We provide compassionate and accessible healthcare, creating a pathway to self-sufficiency and a brighter future for those in need.
Our Mission
Our primary mission is to remove healthcare as a barrier to self-sufficiency for homeless individuals. We offer a comprehensive array of free medical and wellness services, empowering our clients to take charge of their health and reach their full potential.
Access to Quality Care
Located within the Salvation Army Center of Hope, our state-licensed clinic operates as a walk-in facility, removing transportation and financial barriers to care. Our compassionate and highly skilled team provides compassionate and comprehensive medical attention, tailoring services to individual needs.
Integrated Care for Holistic Wellness
Recognizing the interconnectedness of physical and mental health, we offer a holistic approach to care. Our services extend beyond physical treatment, encompassing mental and emotional well-being. We partner with organizations offering substance abuse counseling, mental health counseling, and vision and dental care, ensuring comprehensive care for our clients.
Responding to COVID-19
The pandemic poses unique challenges for our clients who live in a communal shelter. We persevere in providing vital healthcare services, implementing stringent safety protocols to protect both our clients and staff. We have adapted our procedures, utilizing outdoor spaces and implementing robust personal protective measures.
Your Support Matters
The generosity of our community allows us to maintain our vital services. Your support will enable us to:
- Provide essential healthcare to vulnerable individuals.
- Continue offering free COVID-19 testing and screening.
- Expand our reach to more underserved families.
Service and Patient Care Issues
The reviews highlight several concerns regarding the service and patient care provided by the clinic. Specifically, the clinic is criticized for not servicing the general homeless population, only providing services to those at the shelter, and excluding men from its services. The clinic's handling of a patient's medical emergency is also scrutinized, with an individual describing a situation where they were restrained against their will and police were called, despite the patient's claims that they were not yet in active labor.
Communication Issues
Communication breakdowns are another significant concern, with patients complaining about having to remind staff to provide requested services or medications. Furthermore, some staff members are accused of being rude, with one nurse allegedly accusing a patient of something they did not do.
Clinic Operations
Additional criticisms are levied at the clinic's internal operations, with patients expressing frustration over the lack of discharge papers and clear instructions. The clinic's reliance on interns is also questioned, with one reviewer suggesting that they lack the necessary knowledge and expertise.
