Tangent Arts

Tangent Theatre Company is a professional theater company based in the Hudson Valley, founded in New York City in 2000 by Dutchess County natives Andrea and Michael Rhodes, along with the late Keith Teller. Our company is deeply rooted in ensemble-oriented theater, and we are dedicated to presenting plays that resonate with our audience and delve into the human experience. We strive to incite and challenge our audience on a gut level through stories that center on character and truth.

Our repertoire includes a wide range of plays, from existential rumination and kitchen sink drama to observational comedy and interconnected one-acts. We are committed to producing established plays and new works that are personal and heartfelt to our company and align with our core philosophy: truth is the motive.

At Tangent Theatre Company, we believe that theater is at its best when it explores the complexities of relationships and behavior. Our main stage shows and readings are carefully curated to showcase character-driven stories that inspire and challenge our audience.

Meet the Team

*Michael Rhodes, Artistic Director:* Michael is an actor, writer, and director who has appeared on stage in New York, regionally, and nationally. He is one of the co-founders of Tangent and has been involved in numerous Tangent main-stage shows and readings.

*Andrea Rhodes, Producing Director:* Andrea has managed and presented numerous shows and readings in New York and the Hudson Valley. She is also the owner of Gig Marketing, a boutique consultancy, and a co-founder of Tangent.

*Keith Teller, Co-founder:* Keith was an actor, director, magician, and musician who founded Apple Blossom Productions in Poughkeepsie, NY. He was also a co-founder of Tangent and a dear friend and colleague who passed away in 2021.

NEWvember New Plays Festival

The NEWvember New Plays Festival was established in 2012 in Tivoli, NY, and has since expanded to include a presence in Dublin, Ireland. The festival showcases new plays from around the world each November and has become a highly anticipated event in the theater community.

Anna Nugent, Actor, Producer, and Director

Anna is an accomplished actor, producer, and director who has appeared on stage in New York and Ireland. She is a key contributor to the NEWvember New Plays Festival and has appeared in numerous Tangent main-stage shows and readings.
