New Perspectives Theatre Company has been a vibrant fixture in the New York City theatre landscape for over three decades. Founded in 1991 as a multi-racial ensemble, we utilize the power of theatre to spark positive social change and foster critical conversations.
Our Mission
Our mission is threefold:
- Developing and showcasing new voices: We actively nurture and stage new plays and playwrights, with a particular focus on amplifying the experiences of women and people of color.
- Reimagining the classics: We recontextualize classic plays through a contemporary lens, highlighting the contributions of under-recognized artists and restoring their rightful place in the theatrical canon.
- Empowering communities: We prioritize reaching underserved audiences, particularly young people and marginalized communities, by fostering life skills and encouraging active participation in society through the art of theatre.

Our Impact
Over the past three decades, we have:
- Served over 30,000 public school students across the five boroughs of New York City and the tri-state area.
- Provided over 60 residencies to acclaimed women playwrights.
- Developed and staged 55 original short plays through our Women's Work Short Play Lab.
- Mounted over 94 productions, receiving numerous awards and accolades.
