Located in the heart of Downtown Norfolk, The Monastery Restaurant is one of the oldest and most acclaimed restaurants in the area. For over 25 years, our family-owned and operated restaurant has been serving delicious European cuisine in a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Our Story
Our story begins with the arrival of Anna and Adolf Jerabek, who escaped from communist Czechoslovakia in 1967. They immigrated to the United States, seeking freedom and the American Dream. After working hard in New York City, they opened their first restaurant, The Monastery Restaurant, on the West side of Manhattan. In the early 1980s, they sold the restaurant and headed to Virginia, where they opened a new location in 1984. Our current location in Downtown Norfolk is the result of their hard work and dedication.
