At Stethen-Smith Construction Company, we pride ourselves on building trust-driven relationships with our clients. Our company has a rich history that spans over three decades, and we have established ourselves as a premier commercial builder with a regional presence. Headquartered in Knoxville, Tennessee, we are licensed in several states, including Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama.
Our Story
In 1989, Stethen Construction Company was founded by Doug Stethen. Over the years, the company grew in reputation and became known for its expertise in church construction. In 1996, Sam Smith founded H.S. Smith Constructors, and a year later, the two companies merged to form Stethen-Smith Construction Company. The shared values and commitment to quality resulted in a successful partnership between Doug and Sam. When Doug retired, Sam took over as the sole owner and president.

At Stethen-Smith Construction Company, we believe in building strong relationships with our clients. We are an open-shop contractor that uses qualified, insured subcontractors. We self-perform approximately 30% of our work, which increases efficiency and helps alleviate bottlenecks. Our quality staff of superintendents and craftsmen has a wide range of experience in all phases of construction.
