Welcome to New Heritage Theatre Group, the oldest Black non-profit theater company in New York City. Established in 1964, our mission is to preserve and sustain classic works of Black theatre. We are dedicated to promoting and showcasing the rich cultural heritage of African Americans through performing arts, film, and international collaborations.

Our History

New Heritage Theatre Group was founded by the late Roger Furman, a revered playwright, director, actor, and lecturer who began his career in the 1940s with the American Negro Theatre in Harlem. Over the years, we have continued to grow and evolve, expanding our services to include film production, international collaborations, and community outreach programs.
