Cultivating peace and compassion through Insight Meditation
At Mariposa Sangha, we are a community of individuals dedicated to the practice of insight meditation in Austin, Texas. Our sangha is a supportive space where people from all backgrounds and spiritual traditions come together to cultivate greater mindfulness, compassion, and wisdom in their daily lives.
Our Practice
Our practice is rooted in the tradition of Vipassana, or Insight Meditation, which has been practiced for over 2,500 years in Asia. Our style of practice is associated with the Insight Meditation Society (IMS) in Barre, MA, and Spirit Rock Meditation Center in Woodacre, CA. We offer a variety of opportunities for practice, including daily and weekly meditation sessions, classes, daylongs, and retreats.
Weekly Meditations
We meet every Thursday night for a weekly meditation session, both in person at Trinity Church and online via Zoom. Our sessions typically begin with a guided meditation, followed by a silent meditation period, a short talk on Buddhist topics, and group discussion. All are welcome to join us, regardless of your level of experience.
Daily Meditations
In addition to our weekly session, we offer daily meditation sessions on Zoom. These silent meditations are a great way to cultivate mindfulness and calm in your daily life. Join us every morning from 7:00-8:00 am CT.
Events and Classes
Throughout the year, we host various events and classes that are open to the public. These may include book clubs, classes, daylongs, and retreats. Our events are designed to provide opportunities for personal growth and development, as well as a sense of community and connection with others.
Our Goals
At Mariposa Sangha, our goal is to create a supportive and inclusive community that fosters personal growth, compassion, and wisdom. We strive to provide a welcoming space for people from all backgrounds and spiritual traditions to come together and practice meditation.
Supporting Our Community
Our community is supported through the practice of dana, or voluntary generosity. We believe that everyone should have access to our practices and events, regardless of their financial means. We also rely on the generosity of our members and supporters to help us continue to provide these opportunities.
