At Northshore Cooperative Preschool (NCP), we are a cooperative community of families dedicated to providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate school environment where children and families learn and grow together. As a cooperative, we believe that a parent's active involvement in a child's education enriches the child, the family, and the community. Our preschool offers a unique opportunity for parents to participate in their child's education by working alongside our trained teachers as assistant teachers in the classroom.

What is a Co-op Preschool?

Co-op preschools are different from traditional drop-off preschools. At NCP, parents play an active role in their child's education by working as assistant teachers in the classroom one day a week. This participation not only enriches the preschool experience for everyone but also provides an opportunity for parents to learn alongside their child. Our co-op model is built on the principles of trust, respect, and open communication between parents, teachers, and children.

Curriculum and Classes

Our curriculum is play-based, hands-on, and experiential, catering to young children's developmental strengths. We emphasize social skills and conflict resolution, encouraging children to communicate with others and solve problems. Our curriculum is designed to help children become relaxed in a school setting and look forward to learning and sharing.

A typical day in class may include our free-choice activity time, where children explore the space and participate in activities that interest them. Our teachers provide targeted activities to develop fine-motor, literacy, and math skills, among other areas. During circle time, we incorporate singing, dance, and movement to facilitate socialization and learning.

Parent Education and Involvement

As part of our co-op model, parents participate in parent education and are required to attend one classroom changeover event per year. We also have various committees that help run our school, including fundraising, social activities, and publicity. These committees provide opportunities for parents to contribute to the school's overall success.

Parent Involvement and Education

At NCP, we believe that parent education is essential in supporting a child's early education. That's why we partner with Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) to provide parent education classes. Our parent-education program not only enriches our own educational experience but also provides an opportunity for parents to earn college credits.

Committees and Community

Our co-op is built on the principles of community and participation. We have various committees that help run our school, including fundraising, social activities, publicity, and facilities. These committees provide opportunities for parents to contribute to the school's overall success and build a sense of community within our school.

Enrollment and Classes

We offer classes for children aged 1-5, with classes divided into different age groups: Inchworms (1-2's), Caterpillars (2-3's), Ladybugs (3-4's), and Butterflies (4-5, Pre-K). Our Honeybee Family Class is designed for older siblings to participate together.

Transparency and Communication

At NCP, we believe in transparency and open communication. We maintain a policy of inclusivity, where everyone's voice is valued and respected. We strive to create a safe and nurturing environment where everyone feels welcome and supported.

Conclusion

Northshore Cooperative Preschool is a unique and enriching preschool experience that combines the benefits of a co-op model with a focus on parent education and community involvement. We invite you to join our community and be an active participant in your child's early education.
