Our History

Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors has been a trusted member of the Fernandina Beach community for nearly a century. Founded in 1931 by E.C. Oxley and later joined by John H. Heard, the funeral home has a long history of providing exceptional service to families in their time of need.

Our Staff

Our staff is the backbone of our funeral home, and we are proud to have a team of caring and dedicated professionals who are committed to serving our families.

*John H. Heard*, a native of Moultrie, Ga. and a 1969 graduate of Texas College of Mortuary Science in Dallas, has been serving families at Oxley-Heard since 1974.

*Kyle Adkins*, a native of Folkston, Georgia and a 1980 graduate of Georgia Southern College and a 1991 graduate of Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science, joined our team in 2015. As a third-generation funeral director, Kyle has spent much of his life in funeral service.

*Robert C. Smith*, a lifelong resident and native of Fernandina Beach, FL, joined our team in 1989. He is a 1976 graduate of Miami Dade School of Mortuary Science and has been serving families at Oxley-Heard since 1989.

*Jacob D. Mckinney*, a native of Fernandina Beach and a 1991 graduate of Fernandina Beach High School, has been serving families at Oxley-Heard since 2013.

*Mary Parker Wood*, a native of Jacksonville, FL, and a resident of Fernandina Beach, FL, has been serving families at Oxley-Heard since 2010.

*Susan M. Melogy*, a native of Bangor, Me. and a resident of Fernandina Beach, Fl, has been serving families at Oxley-Heard since 2005.

*Tom Woleshin*, a native of Jacksonville and a long-time resident of Fernandina Beach, has been serving families at Oxley-Heard since 2011.

*Douglas Moore*, a native of Coral Springs, Florida, and a resident of Fernandina Beach, Florida, has been serving families at Oxley-Heard since 2016.

*Mary Moore*, a native of Neptune Beach, FL, joined our team in 2010.

*Jim Bryant*, a lifelong resident of Fernandina Beach, Florida, and a graduate of Fernandina Beach High School, joined our team in 2020.

*Amy Lee*, a native of Jacksonville and a resident of Yulee, Florida, Amy is a graduate of the Funeral Services Program at FSCJ in December 2020. She joined our team in 2020.

*Grief Support: We offer grief support services to help families navigate the difficult time after losing a loved one.

*Floral Arrangements: We work with local florists to provide beautiful floral arrangements for services.
