Naughton's Johnson House, a renowned steakhouse in Rochester, New York, has been serving the community with exceptional food and unmatched hospitality since 1977. Situated just 15 minutes from downtown Rochester, off exit 3 on 490 West, the restaurant features an open-hearth grill, fireplace, a baby grand piano with live music on weekends, and three private party rooms, making it an ideal destination for both intimate dinners and large gatherings.

History of The Johnson House

The picturesque, three-story brick building was constructed in 1885 by Mr. George Smith and initially served as a general store. In 1946, Hiram and Ruth Johnson transformed the building into a restaurant, securing the area's first "on-premise" liquor license. Through extensive renovations, The Johnson House quickly gained a reputation for its fine food and hospitality, becoming a beloved establishment. The McCombs family acquired the restaurant in 1968, preserving its historic name and further enhancing the banquet rooms.

In 1977, Mike Naughton and his wife Peggy serendipitously became the new owners of The Johnson House, marking the beginning of a new era for the restaurant. Mike, a successful contractor, and Peggy, who grew up working in her parents' grocery store, brought their hard-working mentality and dedication to the business. All eight of their children and many of their 19 grandchildren have contributed to the restaurant's success over the years. Today, Peggy continues to run the restaurant with the help of her daughters Mary Naughton and Peggy O'Callaghan (RIP), and granddaughters.

Amenities and Atmosphere

Naughton's Johnson House offers a warm and inviting atmosphere, complete with an open-hearth grill, a fireplace, a baby grand piano, and three private party rooms. The menu features high-quality steaks and chops, fresh-cut daily and cooked on the open-hearth grill, as well as an array of seafood and other options. The dining room, now named the Naughton's Lounge, was renovated in 2020 in honor of the family's Irish heritage.
