Our Atmosphere and History

Lucky Loggers Restaurant & Catering provides a warm and friendly atmosphere, complete with an open concept kitchen. The entire length of the main wall in our dining room features a mural that depicts the old logging days on the Saco River, a nod to the area's rich history. Antique saws and other logging tools adorn the large pine panels, sourced from Joe Deering's own lumber yard, which serve as the walls in our dining room. These panels are four to five feet wide, cut from virgin lumber, and sunk to the bottom of the Saco River for a year, followed by another year of drying, making them a unique and historical feature of our restaurant.

In the early 1960s, Joe Deering built the shopping plaza that our restaurant now sits on. The mall rests on the old drying yard of the Deering Lumber Co. sawmill. Deering owned the restaurant at that time and had named it "Wangan" after the lumber camp supply boat that followed the log drivers down the river to feed the hungry loggers. The restaurant was eventually sold and renamed to "Weeks" until Mark Thomas bought the business in 1980. After conducting research on the land and area, Mark renamed the restaurant to its current name, "Lucky Loggers Landing". The mural in the dining room was painted for Joe Deering by Frank Handlen, who copied old photographs of Deerings last log drives down the Saco River.
