Our Chapter

Welcome to AIA San Mateo County, a chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Founded in 1983, our primary purpose is to represent local architects in public affairs and to be an architectural resource to the community. By focusing on community involvement and member support, we work to make sure that your concerns and interests are reflected in public policy matters affecting communities in San Mateo County.

Our Mission and Vision

Our mission is to advocate for the profession, partner with our local communities to improve the quality and sustainability of the built environment, and enrich our members through the sharing of knowledge and experience. Our vision is to help equip our chapter architects to be leaders in advocating for architectural and professional issues of our community.

Our Services

We offer a range of services to our members and the community, including:

• Design and construction expertise through our Find an Architect service
• Continuing education and professional development opportunities
• Advocacy on behalf of the architecture profession
• Community outreach and involvement through design workshops, education programs, and collaborative projects
• Scholarships for local students pursuing architecture careers
• Biennial Design Awards to recognize excellence in local architectural design
• Resources and support for architects, including contract documents, California Energy Code Seminar, and COVID-19 resources

Our Standards

As a chapter of the American Institute of Architects, we adhere to the highest ethical standards. Our members are required to adhere to the AIA Code of Ethics, and we maintain antitrust compliance in all our dealings. We take complaints against unlicensed individuals seriously and have a process in place for submitting complaints.
