Our company was founded by Soule' Gibson, who began his building career working for a large commercial contractor. After gaining hands-on experience in commercial construction, Gibson returned to Michigan State University to complete his degree in building construction management. Even before graduation, he was offered a position with Barton Malowe, one of Michigan's largest and most respected construction companies, as an assistant superintendent. Recognized for his past experience and working knowledge of the business, Gibson was immediately added to the management team in charge of a $13 million project to renovate Warren Fitzgerald schools.

Many in his shoes would have felt a great sense of accomplishment for having completed such a complicated project. However, Gibson had a different vision - he wanted to found and run his own company. This led to the establishment of Gibson Design Group, Inc., which specializes in reworking existing homes and incorporating modern features into older ones, making certain they fit within the look and feel of the original design.

Our focus has been total home renovations - interior and exterior, which requires a great knowledge of structural steel and sound foundation work. Part of our work includes building custom casework, entertainment centers, and wine cellars. We have built a number of these wine cellars, from a smaller one that held 4,500 bottles to another which holds a collection of 30,000 bottles and includes a sitting room for tastings. Two of the wine cellars which were designed and built were later featured in the popular magazine Better Homes & Gardens.

Over the past fifteen years, Gibson Design Group, Inc. has grown steadily, during which time many people in the Grosse Pointes have chosen to renovate their homes instead of relocating. Today, the company has a combined total of just under 75 years of hands-on experience among its six employees. Our team is focused on being a people-oriented organization whose main goal is to fully understand the client's needs and how they intend to utilize the proposed renovations.

We have extensive knowledge of the options available to the client and can assist with decisions in all areas of home renovation. Our team of designers and builders work closely with the client to develop the final designs and produce a proposal that is presented to the client. Once the proposal is accepted, the team goes right to work with the client to select materials, finishes, and fixtures, reviewing our extensive resource library or visiting showrooms. The project begins only after all the "I's" are dotted and all the "t's" are crossed.
