The New York Restaurant, located in the heart of downtown Harbor Springs, offers a unique and unparalleled dining experience. Nestled in a historic former hotel overlooking Little Traverse Bay's waterfront, our restaurant provides an eclectic cuisine in a comfortable and inviting setting. Our restaurant opens at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday and offers nightly appetizer and dinner specials, using fresh local ingredients, homegrown herbs, and creative ingenuity. We are committed to ensuring your dining experience is exceptional and memorable, and we continually strive to provide a diverse and exciting menu that caters to all palates.

In addition to our regular dining options, The New York Restaurant is available for private parties throughout the year. We also offer a small private dining room for more intimate gatherings, perfect for celebrations, business meetings, or family events. We recommend making reservations, particularly on weekends, holidays, and special events, to guarantee a table and avoid disappointment.

Our History

The New York Restaurant is steeped in history and tradition. The building was originally the Leahys' New York Hotel, built-in 1904, and consisted of a large lobby with a bar (for gentlemen only!) on one side and bowling alleys on the other. A dining room, kitchen, and sleeping rooms were located on the second floor. The hotel was a tremendous success, attracting both summer visitors and local residents.

Over time, the hotel evolved, with bowling alleys converted into a theater, and the bar becoming the dining room due to Prohibition. The upstairs dining room was used for parties, dances, and meetings, while the smaller rooms became shops and display rooms. In 1977, the first floor was converted into its present configuration as The New York Restaurant, while the second floor became residential condominiums.

As owner of The New York Restaurant, Matt Bugera, Chef/Owner, wishes to continue the tradition of hospitality that has existed at this location for much of the century. We invite you to enjoy an outstanding meal in our comfortable surroundings, steeped in history and charm.
