Building Better Tomorrows Today for Kentuckians with Vision Loss

The Kentucky Council of the Blind (KCB) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) membership organization dedicated to helping individuals with vision loss lead full and independent lives. We are a group of blind, visually impaired, and sighted volunteers who work together to address various issues affecting people with low vision. Our mission is to advocate for quality education for blind children, expanded training and job opportunities for visually impaired adults, improved services for seniors over age 60 who are just losing their vision, and better public transportation for those who cannot drive. We also support Medicare coverage of durable equipment, paper money that can be identified by touch, talking prescription labels, more audio described movies and TV shows, and more affordable and easier-to-use technology for those with low vision.

Services and Support

The KCB offers a range of services and support to individuals with vision loss. We provide information on technology, guide dogs, magnifiers, and other products that can assist in daily life. We also organize events and offer tips on issues such as audible pedestrian signals, Social Security, accessible TV and audio description, education and rehabilitation, and more. Additionally, we have a free weekly audio magazine called Sound Prints, which can be downloaded or received on audio CD. We also publish a free bimonthly newsletter available in large print, on audio CD, or by email. For those who prefer digital communication, we are active on Facebook, Twitter, and email lists.

News and Events

To stay updated on the latest news and events from the KCB, you can subscribe to our free email lists. We regularly post updates on issues related to visual impairment and blindness, including legislative news, product reviews, and upcoming events. By subscribing, you will also receive information about our annual convention, local chapter meetings, and other activities aimed at supporting individuals with vision loss in Kentucky.
