Our Team

Jim, the founder of Sunstone Pottery Supply, has been working with clay since 1974. His journey began during his time at Dixie College (now Utah Tech) while studying to be a graphic artist. A mandatory ceramics class changed the course of his life, and he discovered a new direction. It wasn't just about the clay; it was the entire process that intrigued and continues to challenge him.

Jim graduated from Dixie College, earned a BS from Weber State University in 1976, and received his MFA from Arizona State University in 1979. He taught for three years at different colleges before moving on to start his full-time pottery business, specializing in high-fired stoneware and porcelain. In 1990, he ventured into distributing clay, equipment, and other materials on a small scale. This side of the business grew, allowing him to cater to the needs of the ceramic community.

Abby, the general manager, was born and raised in the world of ceramics. She is passionate about serving the ceramics community and fostering a space where creativity can flourish. Whether it's helping beginners get started or supporting seasoned artists, she is all about keeping the family legacy alive.
