Camp Burgess-Hayward

At South Shore YMCA Camp Burgess & Hayward, we believe in fostering a community that encourages growth, learning, and belonging among our campers. Established in 1928, we have been leading the way in Massachusetts camping for over 90 years. Our brother-sister YMCA camps are located on Cape Cod, just one hour south of Boston in the historic town of Sandwich, on over 300 acres of forests, meadows, and sparkling freshwater ponds.

Our Programs

Our camps offer one and two-week sessions for boys and girls ages 7-16. Our goal is to instill wonder, encourage stewardship, and cultivate community among our campers. We strive to develop conscientious citizens who will make a positive impact in the world.

Camp Burgess for Boys and Camp Hayward for Girls

Camp Burgess is designed specifically for boys, providing them with a unique opportunity to develop their skills, build friendships, and learn valuable life lessons. Camp Hayward, on the other hand, offers a safe and supportive environment for girls to grow, learn, and thrive. Both camps provide a range of activities and experiences tailored to meet the needs and interests of each gender group.

CIT Program and Co-Ed Week

Our Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Program is designed for 16-year-old campers who are interested in becoming future leaders at our camps. This program focuses on leadership development, teamwork, and community service. We also offer a Co-Ed Week, where boys and girls from both camps come together for a week of shared activities, games, and events, promoting unity and camaraderie among all campers.

Adventure Trips

For older campers looking for more challenging and exciting experiences, we offer a variety of adventure trips. These trips range from hiking and surfing to biking and multi-sport adventures, allowing campers to explore new places, try new activities, and develop their outdoor skills.

Daily Schedule and Cabin Life

Our daily schedule is designed to provide a balance of structured activities and free time, allowing campers to choose their own path and make the most of their summer experience. Cabin life is an integral part of our camps, where campers live together in small groups, fostering a sense of community and teamwork among cabin mates.
