Our History

In 1937, O'Garlan Ricks founded Ricks Funeral Home in Winfield, Missouri. After serving in the Army during World War II, O'Garlan and his wife, Kathryn, reopened the funeral home and expanded their services by purchasing a residence in Elsberry, Missouri, where they remodeled and opened a new funeral home. Over the next thirty-five years, the Ricks family continued to provide professional, compassionate care and dedicated community service to the families they served.

Today, Carter-Ricks Funeral Homes is owned and operated by Larry and Kayla Carter, who continue to uphold the high standards of service established by O'Garlan and Kathryn. We are committed to serving the needs of our communities with services designed to aid you and your loved ones in making thoughtful decisions about final arrangements.

Our Services

At Carter-Ricks Funeral Homes, we offer a range of services to meet the needs of every family. Our traditional services include visitation, funeral, and burial or entombment. We also offer cremation services, which can be arranged in conjunction with a traditional funeral or as a standalone option. Our eulogies and obituaries are written with care and attention to detail, and we provide guidance on funeral etiquette and frequently asked questions to help you navigate this difficult time.

In addition to our immediate need services, we also offer pre-planning options to help you prepare for the future. We understand that planning a funeral can be overwhelming, and we are here to help you every step of the way. Our pre-planning services include pre-arrangement and online planning, as well as resources to help you understand grief and cope with loss.

Our Facilities

We have two locations to serve you better: our original Winfield location and our Elsberry location. Both facilities are fully equipped to handle all of your funeral needs, with comfortable visitation rooms, a chapel for services, and ample parking. Our staff is dedicated to making your experience as comfortable and stress-free as possible.
