Our Story

Our journey began when our founder, Larry Mayer, retired from Honeywell in 2001, where he had spent years solving heat and cooling problems for commercial buildings. With his extensive knowledge and experience, Larry founded Solution Design in 2002, providing advanced design services to the Fargo-Moorhead area. In 2009, he became a PHIUS Certified Passive House Consultant, and we started offering next-generation building solutions to homeowners.

Designing for Comfort

We believe that a home should be designed with the occupants' comfort in mind. That's why we use advanced design techniques to create homes that are not only energy-efficient but also healthy and comfortable. Our designs incorporate next-generation building solutions, including radiant heating and cooling systems, advanced lighting, and medical-grade fresh air systems.

Energy Audits

For existing homes, we offer energy audits that provide a comprehensive report on the home's durability, energy use, and comfort. Our energy audits include a thermal scan of the envelope, a list of recommended work to be completed, and a commentary on how it impacts comfort, energy use, and sustainability.

New Construction

For new construction projects, we work closely with contractors and homeowners to ensure a smooth and successful build. We provide on-site training, as-built manuals, and planning to guarantee a successful project. Our custom tool kits, diagrams, and checklists ensure that the build process is efficient and on budget.

Final Commission and Testing

We visit every site weekly to check on air and water seal details, ensuring that the final product meets our high standards. We use industry-leading components, thermal cameras, and blower door pressure test equipment to ensure that our homes are not only energy-efficient but also comfortable and healthy.
