As a registered nurse, Gayle has worked in various healthcare settings, including a 12-room surgery department, mobile lithotripsy services, and the first U.S. research unit for biliary lithotripsy. She has held numerous leadership positions in the surgery industry and has contributed to national and state surgery center publications. In 2005, Gayle was selected by Today's Surgicenter magazine for the "Who's Who in Ambulatory Surgery Industry." She was also recognized by Becker's ASC Review as "39 Women Leaders to Know" in October 2008 and as "66 Women to Know" in the ASC Industry in 2009.
