Breitbach's Country Dining, located in the quaint town of Balltown, Iowa, has been a staple in the community since 1852. Opened by federal permit issued from President Millard Fillmore, it is proudly recognized as Iowa's oldest food and drinking establishment. The Breitbach family has been in ownership for six generations, with the current owner, Mike Breitbach, being the sixth in line. Along with his wife, Cindy, and their seven children, the Breitbach family continues to provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all who visit.

History of Breitbach's Country Dining

Originally serving as a stagecoach stop, personal residence, hotel, grocery store, tavern, and restaurant, the original building was a mainstay in the Balltown community for over 150 years. However, in 2007, the structure was completely destroyed by a fire on Christmas Eve. The current restaurant now sits on the site of the original tavern, which was also destroyed by a gas explosion and fire in the same year. Despite the tragedies, the Breitbach family and the Balltown community came together to rebuild, and the current establishment opened in August 2009.
