History and Leadership

HMA Architects was founded in 1969 by Walter J Hicks, and over the years, we have continued to build a reputation as a consensus builder and problem solver. Our ability to bring differing opinions and needs together stems from our design philosophy, which is centered on creating quality architecture that meets the needs and hopes of the owners, as well as the budget. Our licensed architects work closely with clients to ensure that their project solutions meet both their needs and hopes.

Meet Our Team

Mark Stogsdill, President of HMA Architects, is a Lawrence native with a passion for giving back to the community. With a professional degree from Kansas State University, Mark has a strong background in architecture and has worked on various civic and professional boards. When not working, Mark enjoys woodworking, traveling with his wife, and visiting his three grown sons.

Jeff Messick, a recent retiree from HMA Architects, now works as a consultant to the firm from time to time. With a degree from the University of Kansas School of Architecture, Jeff has lived and practiced his profession in Lawrence since graduation. In his free time, he enjoys sailing, traveling, and spending time with his grandkids.
