Hartford Animal Clinic, located at 1305 West Water Street in Hartford City, is a full-service, mixed animal practice that has been serving the community since 1980. When Drs. Bryan and Camela Schmitz purchased the practice in 2007, they carried on the tradition of providing high-quality medicine and compassionate care for pets and farm animals alike. Under their leadership, the clinic has continued to grow and evolve, offering a wide range of services and fostering a dedicated, knowledgeable team of veterinary professionals.

In 2013, the Schmitzes expanded their services to the Farmland community by opening Hartford Veterinary Services at 209 S Main Street. Situated on the corner of Main and Elm in the heart of historic Farmland, this full-service veterinary clinic shares the same commitment to providing outstanding care for pets and farm animals. With a state-of-the-art facility and a team of skilled veterinarians, Hartford Veterinary Services has quickly become a valued resource for the Farmland community and beyond.

Our Team

At the heart of our clinics are our dedicated team members, who work tirelessly to ensure the well-being of the animals in our care. Allow us to introduce you to some of the key players:

*Dr. Bryan Schmitz, Owner and Veterinarian*: Growing up on his family's dairy farm in Darke County, Ohio, Dr. Schmitz developed a deep appreciation for the role that animals play in our lives. He pursued his passion for animal care by obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture Engineering and a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from The Ohio State University. After practicing dairy production medicine in Napoleon, Ohio, Dr. Schmitz moved to Indiana, where he worked as a mixed animal practitioner at Lynn Veterinary Hospital. In 2007, he purchased the Hartford Animal Clinic, and in 2013, he and his wife Camela opened Hartford Veterinary Services. Dr. Schmitz's expertise, dedication, and warm demeanor have made him a beloved figure in the veterinary community and a trusted partner for countless animal owners.

*Dr. Camela Schmitz, Owner and Veterinarian*: Dr. Camela Schmitz's upbringing on a dairy farm in eastern Ohio instilled in her a strong work ethic and a deep love for animals. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Biology from Mt. Vernon Nazarene College and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from The Ohio State University. Following graduation, Dr. Schmitz worked at a mixed animal practice in Ashland, Ohio before moving to Indiana, where she joined her husband in practice at Kurtz Veterinary Clinic in Hagerstown. In addition to her work at the clinics, Dr. Schmitz enjoys gardening and the challenges and rewards of raising five children, three cats, and two dogs with her husband Bryan.

*Dr. Dustin Decker, Associate Veterinarian*: Since joining Hartford Animal Clinic in 1997, Dr. Dustin Decker has been an invaluable member of our team. A graduate of Purdue University's Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Program, Dr. Decker has a passion for caring for both small and large animals. He and his wife, a middle school teacher, are the proud parents of three amazing children. A dedicated 4-H leader, Dr. Decker loves working with young people and their animals, as well as spending quality time with his family and cheering on Purdue sports.

*Ambulatory Services*: For the convenience of our farm animal clients, our ambulatory services provide on-site care for large animals, minimizing stress and maximizing efficiency.
