For over 25 years, The Swamp Restaurant has been a beloved gathering place in the Gainesville community, serving as a staple restaurant, bar, and event venue. Our iconic building, located off of West University Avenue, quickly became a recognizable landmark amongst the adjacent college bars. The two-story building with its white trim, white picket fence, and sprawling front lawn stood out as a charming and unexpected landmark amidst the surrounding college bars.
Our History
The Swamp Restaurant first opened its doors on December 30th, 1994, and has since become a staple in the Gainesville community. The original building was constructed in 1914 as a professor's house and was remodeled in 1993 after it was nearly destroyed by a fire. Despite the initial setback, the building's unique charm and character remained intact, making it an iconic landmark in the area.
The Iconic Landmark Is Back
After a temporary closure and a spirited campaign by the Gator Nation, The Swamp has returned - all thanks to our loyal patrons. Our new location is just 4 minutes away from our original building, featuring the same Gator Nation spirit, same front lawn, same white picket fence, and same historic charm. We're elated to be continuing our legacy in our new location and can't wait for you to be a part of our permanent history!
