Who We Are: Our Staff

At Burton Funeral Home, we pride ourselves on the dedicated and experienced team of professionals that serve every family with respect, dignity, and compassion. Our staff consists of licensed funeral directors, embalmers, and support personnel who understand the unique needs and personal traditions of each family we serve.

Heather Burton, Owner and Funeral Director, has been involved in the funeral business since 2003 and began her career at Card Funeral Home in Indianola. She later transferred to Mortimer Funeral Home in Indianola in 2006 before purchasing the funeral home with her husband, Jamie, in 2010 and changing the name to Burton Funeral Home. Heather is a lifelong resident of Sunflower County, a Sunflower County Coroner, and the mother of twin daughters, Madison and Mary Margaret.

Jamie Burton, Owner, is also a lifelong resident of Sunflower County and has been employed in the family farming business for many years. He made the decision to join his wife in the funeral home business when she purchased it in 2010. Jamie and Heather are parents of twin girls, Madison and Mary Margaret, and are members of Fairview Baptist Church in Indianola.

Will Gnemi, Embalmer, graduated from Northwest Mississippi Community College with a degree in Mortuary Science. He is employed with Wilson & Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood and also serves as Leflore County Deputy Coroner. Will is married to Kimberly Pullen Gnemi and they have two daughters, Ann Carol and Mari Wilson.

Billie Rhea King, Funeral Assistant, is a longtime resident of Inverness and serves as a Funeral Assistant at Burton Funeral Home. He is married to Barbie Beckham King and they have two children, Anna Thompson and Brenton.

Our Services

At Burton Funeral Home, we offer a range of services tailored to meet each family's unique needs and preferences. Our services include traditional funeral services, graveside services, memorial services, and cremation services. We also offer pre-planning services to help families plan for their end-of-life needs and make arrangements in advance.

Our traditional funeral services typically include a visitation, funeral service, and burial. We can help families plan every detail of the service, from selecting a casket or urn, to choosing music, readings, and speakers. Our graveside services are held at the cemetery, and can include a brief service and committal.

Our memorial services are an alternative to traditional funeral services, and can be held at a time and place that is convenient for the family. These services typically include readings, music, and remembrances, and can be held with or without the presence of the deceased's remains.

Cremation services are also available, and can be arranged as a standalone service or as part of a traditional or memorial service. We offer direct cremation services, which include the transfer of the remains to the crematory, the cremation itself, and the return of the remains to the family. We also offer cremation with a service, which includes a visitation, memorial service, and burial or scattering of the remains.

Our pre-planning services allow families to make arrangements for their end-of-life needs in advance. Pre-planning can help reduce the stress and financial burden on the family, and ensure that the individual's wishes are carried out. We offer pre-planning consultations both in-person and over the phone, and can help families choose the services and options that best meet their needs.

We work with a variety of suppliers to offer a wide selection of options, from traditional to modern, and from simple to elaborate. Our experienced staff can help families choose the merchandise that best meets their needs and budget.
