The Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel has been serving the community for over 140 years, providing compassionate and personalized funeral services to families in need. Our story began in 1882 when the chapel was first established, and over the years we have been proud to serve the families of Hingham and surrounding areas.

Our History

The chapel was founded by George H. Downing, who had a vision to provide a sacred space for the grieving community. As the years passed, the chapel was passed down through generations of the Downing family, until in 1972, the Jones family acquired the funeral home. In 2012, the Slinger family took over the ownership of the chapel, continuing the tradition of family ownership and operation.
