You plant the idea, we make it bloom.
The Los Angeles Theatre Academy (LATA) is a multilingual theatre arts organization that was established in 2011. Our mission is to inspire, educate, and enrich the lives of our students through an education in theatre arts. We believe that nurturing creativity in children results in a more compassionate and happy adult. Our programs encourage students to find their creative voice through immersion in a complete theatrical education that includes acting, directing, set design, production, writing, and more.
As a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization, LATA is dedicated to providing every student the tools they need to find their creative voice. We have partnered with the Department of Recreation and Parks and are supported in part by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture. Some of our programs are also supported by the Department of Cultural Affairs, City of Los Angeles and California Sunrise Foundation.
Our Programs
LATA offers a variety of programs designed to engage and inspire our students. Our After-School Program provides students with a safe and welcoming space to express their creativity. Our Summer Camp is a fun and educational experience where students can participate in live performances and learn from industry professionals.
Meet Our Ensemble
We are proud to have a team of talented and dedicated artists who make up our ensemble. Our program director, Laura B. Rhi, is a talented actress and director who was born in Mexico and has studied at the Theater of Arts in Hollywood, California. Our vocal/singing instructor, Leslie Bee, is a professional singer who has performed around the world. Our staff are passionate about teaching and inspiring our students, and we are proud to have them as part of our team.
What Our Students Say
We are proud of the impact we have had on our students and their families. We have received numerous testimonials from parents and students who have been inspired by their experience at LATA. Here are a few quotes from our wonderful students and their parents:
"I wanted to share with you the following with you: Yesterday I asked James to tell his Spanish babysitter his line from the Theatre Academy play. I recorded his answer and it is attached. I thought you might enjoy it - imagine that I literally fell off the chair. James did not have any script to read and he just recited it by heart - 2 minutes and what I figure is an entire scene. I think this result (I hope you can open the attachment and listen to it) as a result of your great work with the kids and I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for inspiring what you do: a love for language and theatre and the performing arts. The fact that James rattled it all down by heart is a such a positive reinforcement that the kids indeed are with you, and that what you do with them truly sticks." - Corina Dankwerts
"I wanted to express my gratitude for what the presentation last night represented for our family. The last time Camilo acted was the day we took my mother-in-law to the hospital (8/23). I recall that my husband did not come to see him because I took him to the emergency room and we left LATA for the hospital. It never crossed my mind that from that day until today would be the hardest days of our family's history, definitely the worst in the life of my husband, and one of the most difficult for me. Why am I telling you this? Because yesterday for the first time since August 22nd I did not see my husband have that sparkle in his eyes, like he did yesterday seeing Camilo act. Neither did I hear that emotion in his voice since his mother fell ill. We talked about wanting to pay Camilo's classes and did not agree on anything, but there's no money in the world that can thank you for this special experience for our entire family. A giant hug and a million thanks." - Paola Suarez
"We moved to Solano Canyon for the local elementary school, and we can hardly believe our good fortune that LATA is here too! Where else will you find a real child-sized theater in a park, with an extensive playground, and staff who are not only accomplished theater arts professionals but kind and loving too?" - Janet Owen Driggs
"My 8-year-old girls have been attending Los Angeles Theatre Academy for the past 3 years. The staff and volunteers here are great, kids learn lots of things, and have the opportunity to participate in live performances. Most importantly, they have fun." - Jason Li
