The True Pilates Method
The True Pilates Method is a comprehensive approach to fitness and wellness that was developed by Joseph Pilates nearly 100 years ago. This approach is based on the understanding that the Powerhouse, a network of abdominal, back, hip, and thigh muscles, is the foundation of good posture, balance, and overall physical fitness. The True Pilates Method is designed to restore and maintain the natural curvature of the spine, while also improving flexibility, strength, and overall physical fitness.
History and Philosophy
Joseph Pilates was born in Germany in 1883 and was one of eight children. After suffering from asthma, rickets, and rheumatic fever as a child, he dedicated his life to becoming physically and mentally stronger. He studied bodybuilding and gymnastics, and became a professional boxer and self-defense trainer. During World War I, he organized physical training and healthy lifestyle lessons for his fellow inmates, became a nurse, and devised special equipment for physical rehabilitation. After the war, he immigrated to the United States, where he opened a studio in New York City and began teaching his unique method of exercise.

Our instructors are certified through Romana's Pilates International and have received extensive training in the True Pilates Method. They are dedicated to providing a safe and effective exercise experience for each client, and are trained to modify exercises to accommodate clients with injuries or physical limitations.
