Helping New Jersey policyholders when they need it the most.
The New Jersey Life & Health Insurance Guaranty Association (NJLHIGA) is a statutory entity created in 1992, with an effective date of January 1, 1991, to protect state residents who are policyholders and beneficiaries of policies issued by an insolvent insurance company, up to specified limits. Our mission is to provide a safety net for New Jersey residents who are holders of life and health insurance policies and individual annuities with an insolvent insurer.
Our Services
We are a non-profit organization composed of all insurers licensed to sell life insurance, accident and health insurance, and individual annuities in the state of New Jersey. In the event that a member insurer is found to be insolvent and is ordered to be liquidated by a court, we take over the responsibility of servicing the insurance company's policies and providing coverage to New Jersey's resident policyholders. We work closely with a special deputy receiver to ensure a smooth transition and to protect the interests of policyholders.
Our services include:
- Providing protection to policyholders with insolvent insurance companies
- Assisting with the liquidation of insolvent insurance companies
- Servicing insurance policies and providing coverage to New Jersey residents
- Working with a special deputy receiver to ensure a smooth transition
- Providing information and resources to policyholders and the public
Guaranteed Coverage
As part of our mission, we guarantee that policyholders will continue to receive coverage for their policies as long as premiums are paid or cash value exists. We work to ensure that policyholders are treated fairly and that their interests are protected.
