The Roof

The Durham Hotel is a mid-century modern boutique hotel located in the heart of downtown Durham, North Carolina. Our hotel is a vibrant destination that embodies the spirit of its namesake city. We offer 53 thoughtfully appointed rooms, including four suites, an upscale restaurant, coffee bar, and rooftop lounge, as well as private event space for weddings, business meetings, and community events.

Our Story

Built in 1968, our hotel was originally the headquarters of the Home Savings and Loan Association. The original design by architect Perry C. Langston inspired the renovations done in 2015 by Raleigh-based Maurer Architecture and Los Angeles-based interior design firm, Commune. The renovations preserved much of the building's character and 1960s charm, including the original mid-century facade with its distinct gold accents.

Our restaurant serves up delicious farm-to-table cuisine, and our coffee bar is the perfect spot to grab a morning coffee or meet with friends. Our rooftop lounge, The Roof, offers stunning panoramic views of the city's center and is the perfect spot to enjoy a cocktail or two. We also offer private event space for weddings, business meetings, and community events, as well as a business center, fitness facility, and newsstand.

Our Community

The Durham Hotel is more than just a hotel - it's a community hub. We've forged collaborations with many local businesses to offer a unique guest experience, including bespoke blankets made by Raleigh Denim, in-room Counter Culture coffee service, bedside gifts from Burt's Bees, and minibars stocked with snacks from around North Carolina. We also feature a permanent installation of the LIBERATION STATION Black Lit Library, which features children's books highlighting characters of color.
