Empowering Students Through Engineering and Technology

The Chicago Engineering Design Team (EDT) is a student organization founded in September 2000, hailing from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Our team comprises a diverse group of students from various engineering backgrounds, including mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science.

Each year, we enroll in college-level competitions that challenge our skills and knowledge acquired in the classroom. These competitions include NASA's Robot Mining Competition, the Midwestern Robotics Design Competition, the Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition, and more. Through these events, we implement our skills and knowledge into mobile robotics and engineering projects.

Our organization is not just about competitions; we also focus on community service. We collaborate with high schools in Chicago to show students the benefits of pursuing STEM-related careers and higher education. This outreach program aims to inspire young minds and encourage them to explore the world of engineering.

Over the years, EDT has made a significant impact in the engineering community. With over 50 consistent members, we have placed against various schools and teams across the nation in competitions like NASA's RMC and MRDC. Our members gain valuable skills such as teamwork, leadership, communication, organization, programming, electrical engineering, machining, milling, modeling, and 3D printing.

Meet Our Sponsors

We would like to extend our gratitude to our sponsors who have supported us throughout the years. Their contributions have been instrumental in helping us achieve our goals and participate in various competitions. We appreciate their belief in our potential and their commitment to fostering engineering education.

Meet Our Officers

Our team is led by a group of dedicated officers who are passionate about engineering and community service. Our current officers include Advik Sikligar as President, Nimai Kamdar as Vice President, Elijah Wilkinson as Treasurer, and Manh Phan as Secretary. Together, they oversee the various projects and ensure that our organization continues to grow and thrive.

Teams and Projects

We have several teams within EDT, each focusing on different projects and competitions. Team Lunabotics works on the NASA Robot Mining Competition, Team Stella participates in the Midwestern Robotics Design Competition and the Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition, Team AiR focuses on building and programming drones for various competitions, and Team Devastating Wind competes in the annual combat robotics event, RoboBrawl.

Each team is dedicated to designing, developing, and evaluating their robots according to the specific competition requirements. Through these projects, our members gain hands-on experience in engineering design, prototyping, and problem-solving.

Upcoming Events

We are constantly looking for new challenges and opportunities to grow as engineers and as a team. We participate in various events throughout the year, including involvement fairs, workshops, and seminars. These events provide us with a platform to showcase our projects, share our experiences, and learn from other engineering teams.

If you are interested in learning more about our organization or would like to join us, please feel free to reach out. We welcome students from all engineering backgrounds to join our team and be a part of our exciting journey.
